Paired-Organ Donation

APKD covers the cost of any transplantation-related expenses, including lost wages from time off work, travel expenses to and from the transplant center, food, lodging and fuel expenses.

The Alliance for Paired Kidney Donation offers comprehensive insurance for all living donors against any complications related to their nephrectomy.

The APKD KidneyPledge

The Pledge:

The APKD KidneyPledge provides protection to a nondirected living kidney donor who donates a kidney through the Alliance for Paired Kidney Donation (APKD). This KidneyPledge protects you should a member of your immediate family need a kidney transplant in the future. Immediate family member means a spouse, child, parent, grandchild, grandparent, or sibling.

Using your Kidney Pledge:

Your nondirected kidney donation entitles you to designate at any time before your death one immediate family member who will receive priority above other candidates in the APKD system for the first three months after becoming active in the APKD matching system, and the highest possible priority after waiting for three months. Becoming active in the APKD matching system means that your chosen family member has been approved for a kidney transplant by an APKD-participating transplant program and activated in the APKD.

Transferability

The APKD KidneyPledge is for the benefit of you and your designated recipient, cannot be transferred, and expires upon your death or the death of your designated recipient, whichever comes last.
